Founded
in 1969, Evangel Ministries, Inc. (EMI) today operates three radio
stations in Eastern and Central Wisconsin. Originally an outreach of
Evangel Community Church in Menasha, EMI became independent in 1982 to
more effectively serve the greater Christian community.
By the late 1970's, EMI
served the community through Christian bookstores in Neenah and
Appleton, a graphics and printing company and WEMI-FM. During the late
1980's, the various locations of Evangel Christian Book Center were
consolidated in a central location to create Wisconsin's largest
Christian Bookstore. Ranking among the top 100 Christian bookstores
nationwide, ECBC provided books, music, gifts and other materials for
church ministry and personal Christian growth.
In 1989, WEMI moved into
larger, more efficient facilities. Seeking to fulfill it's mission
statement, EMI acquired WGNV-FM (88.5) in Central Wisconsin in 1991.
91.5, broadcasting
to the
Green Bay, Wisconsin and North area, was added to the EMI station stable
in 1998. Called WEMY, it serves the Green Bay -
Northern Wisconsin - Lake Shore listeners.
Radio is today the preferred
medium to reach a well-defined audience. Unlike television viewers,
radio listeners identify closely with their favorite station. Radio fits
well into today's mobile lifestyle, and becomes a personal companion at
home, at work, in the car - even out jogging. It is this intimate
characteristic that makes radio so appropriate for Christian ministry,
speaking to the heart of one person at a time - a hundred thousand times
over.
The ministry of EMI builds on
these inherent strengths to reach the people of Eastern and Central
Wisconsin with the Christian message of hope and reconciliation.
